Tab Dedup · Privacy
Privacy policy
Tab Dedup does its work on your computer. It reads the addresses of your open tabs to find duplicates inside a single window, and it never sends that information anywhere.
01Who we are
Arkutheiast is an independent studio based in Malang, Indonesia. Tab Dedup is developed and published by Arkutheiast for the Chrome Web Store and the Microsoft Edge Add-ons store. This policy covers the browser extension only.
02What is processed
To decide whether two tabs are copies of each other, the extension reads a small set of tab properties. All of it stays inside your browser.
| Data | Leaves your device | Why it is read |
|---|---|---|
| Tab address and title | No | Compares tabs opened in the same window. |
| Window identifier | No | Keeps comparisons inside one window, so other windows are never touched. |
| Pinned and audible state | No | Skips tabs you pinned or that are playing audio. |
| Your settings | No, stored by the browser | Remembers the limit, keep rule, and protection options you chose. |
| Closed tab history | No | Lets you reopen a tab that was closed by mistake. |
Addresses are compared in memory while the extension runs. The extension has no backend, no tracking pixel, and no host permissions, which means it cannot read the content of the pages you visit.
03Permissions
The extension requests three permissions. Each one is required for the core feature.
| Permission | What it is used for |
|---|---|
tabs |
Reads tab addresses, titles, and window identifiers, and closes only the extra copies in one window. Without it, duplicate detection is not possible. |
storage |
Saves your settings through the browser sync storage, and keeps the closed tab counter plus up to 60 history entries on your device. |
notifications |
Shows the optional confirmation with "Close duplicates" and "Keep" buttons when you turn on the ask-before-closing mode. |
Tab Dedup does not request host permissions, so the browser never shows a warning about reading and changing data on websites.
04What we do not do
- We do not collect, transmit, or store your browsing data on any server.
- We do not use analytics, telemetry, or crash reporting services.
- We do not ship remote code. Every JavaScript file is inside the extension package, with no
eval(), no external script tags, and no CDN. - We do not show ads and we do not include affiliate or referral parameters.
- We do not require an account, an email address, or a sign-in.
- We do not sell, rent, or share data with third parties, because we never receive it.
05Storage and retention
Settings
Preferences such as the copy limit, the keep rule, and the protection toggles are stored with
chrome.storage.sync. If you are signed in to Chrome or Edge, the browser may
sync them to your own profile, under the browser vendor's terms.
Local data
The total number of closed tabs and up to 60 history entries are stored with
chrome.storage.local. Each entry contains the address, title, window identifier,
and closing time of the tab. The oldest entries are dropped automatically once the list is
full.
Retention
Local data stays on your device until you clear it or uninstall the extension. Uninstalling removes it. A copy held in browser sync is removed when you delete it from your browser sync settings or your browser account.
06Your controls
- Pause duplicate detection at any time from the extension popup.
- Clear the reopen history and reset the closed tab counter from the options page.
- Remove the extension to delete all local data at once.
- Manage synced settings from your browser account, where they are listed with other extension data.
07Children
Tab Dedup is a general purpose utility and is not directed to children under 13. Because the extension collects no personal data, no information about children is gathered.
08Changes to this policy
If a future version changes how data is handled, this page will be updated before that version is released, and the date at the top will change. The current version of Tab Dedup handles data exactly as described above.
